2010 TRAINEE SATISFACTION SURVEY - SUMMARY

Introduction

The survey is conducted every two years.  The 2010 survey was conducted electronically to over 900 trainees who were identified from the EMQUAL database.  215 trainees responded which is a 24 percent response.

The survey is conducted as part of EMQUAL’s goal to be recognised as a High Performing ITO, and meets the stated objectives in the ITOs’ Strategic and Business plans.  The results of the survey indicate just one aspect of EMQUAL performance – to industry trainees.

The report provides an analysis of ‘things that are working well or not so well’, and identifies some key changes that may be required to meet trainee expectations.

As well as results from the survey, EMQUAL needs to take account of ‘environmental’ concerns, which include pressure on key industry stakeholders through tighter financial management, increased expectations, and changing requirements from TEC and NZQA.

Key Findings

  • 90% of trainees feel current training programmes meet their training needs.  Training was up to date and able to be done at a good pace.
  • 94% of trainees responded positively to knowing how the training and qualifications relate to each other
  • 67% are satisfied with EMQUAL overall, 29% are neutral, with only 3% being dissatisfied
Overall rating for the quality of EMQUAL products and services was positive, with 69% good or excellent, 24% adequate and 7% poor or unacceptable
  • EMQUAL training and assessment processes were rated excellent or very good by 75%
The assessment system is thorough and comprehensive and a good chance to demonstrate your skills
  • 66% have confidence that EMQUAL can deliver the products and services required

Areas for Improvement

  • More frequent and focussed visits to trainees
    Quicker responses to enquiries
  • Improved website
  • Simplified and streamlined administrative system
  • Continued improvement on workplace training materials

Summary

While this survey was conducted electronically, it reinforces the results of previous surveys in showing that EMQUAL continues to look to improve its products and services; and in the overall high rating of satisfaction from trainees.

EMQUAL would like to thank all those who took part in the survey.

The winner of the Mystery Weekend was Rob Chappell.
