The concept of workplace based training was established by government to promote higher levels of training and education in the workplace and to ensure a system was in place to provide national and international recognition to people for workplace knowledge and skills.
The framework sets up conditions that promote a partnership between the employer, the employee and the ITO or standard setting body as they are often referred to that encourages learning, training and competency in workplace skills.
Most unit standards have been developed with the job role in mind and trainees should be capable of being taught on-the-job, or achieved by experience gained in the course of normal work based activities.
Using a training record book to document the trainee's involvement in aspects of workplace activities and any training provided can be used to help collect evidence to assist the assessor in making assessment decisions about a trainee's competence. The trainee is responsible for keeping the workbook up to date, and writing in details of his/her training activities.
On-job assessment will be conducted by a FRSITO-registered assessor using approved assessment guides or in the case of Industries that have been approved as a Private or Government Training Establishments they may use assessors appointed under their own accreditation and use assessment processes developed for their own use but these processes are moderated by FRSITO to ensure compliance with industry requirements.
