This ensures the training and learning outcomes are relevant to the workplace and workplace best practices.

On some occasions the training will need to be provided by trainers or providers from outside the workplace who have a specific expertise not readily available in the workplace.

In order to ensure the quality of this externally provided training, NZQA in consultation with the FRSITO has a formal process of accreditation. To be able to train and assess against unit standards, these training providers must be registered and accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

FRSITO also has a role to play in ensuring the trainers have suitable quality management systems, equipment, experience & trained assessors, capable of delivering training and assessment to the requirements of the unit standards developed by FRSITO.

FRSITO has a registered Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) that sets out requirements that providers must meet and maintain in order to become an accredited provider.

The ongoing quality of providers is monitored by FRSITO in accordance with the AMAP requirements. Moderation visits are undertaken and moderation of assessments results are conducted to validate performance against the AMAP requirements. If standards are not maintained FRSITO can report to NZQA and recommend deregistration of a provider on behalf of the industry.

For employers, trainees/volunteers in FRSITO registered Structured Training Programmes, the ITO is able to access financial resources from Government to support this off-job training.
