Skills recognition is a process that allows learners to be recognised for existing skills and knowledge.
Recognition of Current Competency (RCC)
This is the formal acknowledgement of competencies currently held by a person gained through training, work or life experiences which may lead to the granting of a unit standard(s).
It considers what a learner has done previously and is still currently capable of doing by way of their present role(s). Indirect evidence can be presented to validate skills that have been achieved and to show that the candidate is working in an environment where their skills are being maintained and are repeatable.
Evidence will have been collected through activities and experiences over time.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
This is a process of assessment that considers competence previously achieved without the need for a repetition of assessment tasks.
Some evidence will come from formal tests and tasks; some from ongoing work or learning activities; and some from outside a formal learning or work environment.
Learners may be assessed on the basis of attested prior performance, using evidence from previous jobs for example; in their current role without completing a course of learning; or a combination of both.
RPL processes must be approved by the EMQUAL National Moderator and endorsed by the Quality Management Advisory Group (QMAG).
Requests for RCC or RPL may be discussed with your Regional Advisor in the first instance.
