The Just The Job TV series recently aired this segment on Volunteer Rural Fire Fighters. It features Kierin Oppatt and the team at the Lake Okareka Rural Fire Force, winners of FRSITO's Excellence in Training Award in 2008.
FRSITO would like to thank Kierin, Richard Horn, and the rest of the Lake Okareka Rural Fire Force for giving their time to feature on the show, and the Rotorua District Council.
NEMTOC 2010
The National Emergency Management Training Officers' Conference (NEMTOC) 2010 schedule has been updated is now available for viewing here.
NEMTOC 2010 will be held in Brisbane, Queensland on 6 – 8 October and focuses on providing opportunities for training personnel working within Australian and New Zealand Emergency Services agencies, contexts and industry to update their skills, knowledge and understanding of quality training and development outcomes. It also provides the opportunity for participants to create professional networks across the Emergency Services and Management sector, to be exposed to current government initiatives in the area of vocational education and training and best practice training and assessment initiatives.
The theme for NEMTOC 2010 is “Leading Improvement and Change” with all speakers and presentations showcasing how learning and training initiatives lead, facilitate and support people to make improvements at various levels within emergency services organisations.
At its meeting on 6 May the national CIMS steering committee agreed the following:
That the amended version of the CIMS “Blue Book” requires only minor modification;
Revision will be completed by the end of the first week in June;
The Officials Committee for Domestic and External Security Coordination (ODESC) will approve the book for circulation to the industry;
There will probably be no need for further consultation;
Above the “Blue Book” will be a framework document outlining incident coordination at regional and national level;
The Ministry of Civil Defence Emergency Management (MCDEM) will lead the development of the document outlining the coordination of agencies in order to achieve government’s objectives. The document will amalgamate the information in the current draft of the “Yellow Book” and the new ODESC terms of reference;
Once the draft of the coordination document is completed MCDEM will gain approval from the CIMS steering committee for a wider consultation process.
We repeat the assurance made previously by MCDEM that the alterations to the “Blue Book” are minor. They mainly involve updating terminology and providing greater clarity.
Trainees using the current “Blue Book” for reference will not be mislead or disadvantaged.
